Alright.... So I'm a single girl and I move all the way from Philadelphia to San Diego in search of.... hmmm.... In search of something I suppose. Not exactly sure what yet? : ) One of my big justifications for leaving my friends and family behind, resigning from my great job and moving all the way across the country was "for the weather". I hate the cold! As a matter of fact... I despise it. I never understood why I lived somewhere that was cold 8 months out of the year. Plus... I sounded like a broken record every year with token phrases I would repeat like " I feel like my bones have been cold since October". Or.... " Do you think I can still pull off the capris in November?" Or... the list goes on. I was the girl that held onto summer to the very last second. So hence... now I'm here in San Diego and needless to say... I'm really looking forward to the 50 degree winters! Still cold... yet.... definitely beats temperatures in the single digits!
Alright... so since I've lived in San Diego, my sense of style has changed to say the least. My stiletto heel collection has been stunted in growth and I have really contributed to a rather stellar flip flop collection. My "work" clothes haven't needed ironing in quite a bit and my T-shirt and skirt items have hit the laundry room at record speeds. I can shop summer all-the-time and I can't seem to get enough of it! Soooo..... my quandary..... O.k... I'm out shopping the other day and I ran into this really cute wool beanie hat. I'm saying wayyyy toooo cute! I try it on and thought how cute this would look with my hair down, in pigtails, with a long sleeved shirt, with my one winter coat, with my favorite purse, with..... I mean... the possibilities for this hat were really just endless. I put it down and thought..... Tonia... its 80 degrees outside and you really don't need a wool hat right now. Of course... I had to try it on one more time, just to make sure it didn't lose its cuteness andddd of course..... yup... still cute! Hmmm.... I then doubled checked with my friend that I in fact did not need a wool hat in 80 degree weather, nor did I need a wool hat living in San Diego, he agreed with a chuckle, but then kept looking at other things in the store. I told him we must leave now... I couldn't stay a second longer, or that hat was about to make an extended stay hanging in my closet until I'm 80 years old!
The remainder of the time walking around the mall, I must have repeated " I don't need a 30.00 wool hat right? Noooo... nope, I don't need that hat" about...mmm.... a thousand times. It was funny because my sister then called me with her 18,000th dramatic encounter of the day, in which I paused my shopping to assist her with. She was having this huge dilemma on if she should rent her first home or not, and in the middle of her dramatic encounter I interrupted her and said " Hey keys.. I don't need a 30.00 wool hat right?". Ummm... I think if she coulda jumped through the phone and strangled me, she might have. The funny part is... she stopped for a brief moment, said nothing and then said... " No... you probably don't" and proceeded on with her story. Alright... I knew this hat wasn't checking out of my mind any time soon.
Don't you hate when this happens? You see something, you know you like it, you don't buy it, and find yourself thinking about it until you rearrange your schedule to go out of your way to just go back and buy it anyway. I like to do this sometimes, because it helps me rationalize the purchase. I mean.. If I can't stop thinking about it... I must really NEED it right?
Well I do what any good samaraton would do and go home and try to find it cheaper on the internet. And... after a few hours of internet trap shopping... I found it! And for 20.00! Forget the fact that you had to spend 50.00 to get free shipping... I found the hat for 20.00, making it 10.00 cheaper than the store price! Now I really have to get it right?
I'm perplexed over the hat and even more perplexed that I've recently found myself obsessed with looking at sweaters and really cute scarves. Ugggghhhhhh..... I live in San Diego! I mean... do I really need this stuff? I haven't even hit my first winter here, but historically according to weather reports... wool, does not appear to be an overly popular fabric in the southern California world! O.k... call me sick.. but even attempted to find a weather website that might allow me to think that it would be in my best interest to purchase some new winter gear, just to be prepared for "the cold one".
Earth Shattering Questions of the week....
Am I programmed to begin to want winter items in October? Is this across the board for everyone? Should I still be purchasing these items? Is it normal to hate winter, but have an incredible craving to purchase winter clothes? Is this a bad gene I got handed down? Do I really need a wool hat and... most importantly.... will it go on sale? : )
